SEC and University of Kelaniya Renew Partnership to Strengthen Capital Market Education | The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Kelaniya on 13 May 2026 with the objective of further strengthening collaboration in the areas of capital market education, industry exposure, and undergraduate development.
The MOU was signed by Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, and Tushara Jayaratne, Officer in Charge / Deputy Director General of the SEC.

Speaking at the event, Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva highlighted the importance of renewing the MOU with the SEC in ensuring that the University’s academic programmes remain employable and industry-oriented. She noted that the University’s affiliations with the SEC, including participation in Varsity Battles and internship opportunities provided to undergraduates, have enabled students to gain a better understanding of the capital market and enhance their industry exposure.
Tushara Jayaratne stated that the capital market industry offers significant employment opportunities for graduates and encouraged more undergraduates to seek careers within the sector. He further noted that, through the collaboration established under the MOU, the SEC has been able to facilitate internship opportunities for undergraduates, thereby supporting the development of future industry professionals.
The renewed partnership is expected to further strengthen cooperation between the SEC and the university in promoting capital market awareness, knowledge sharing, and capacity building among undergraduates.
